Retired from a 40-year sports writing career in 2000 that dates back to my years working on The Vanderbilt Hustler. I have covered three Super Bowls and one National Football League championship game before the Super Bowl started; I've also covered three World Series; three NCAA Final Fours along with some NCAA regional tournaments. I spent my last 30 years at The Roanoke Times and now live in Salem, VA. I am still a free-lance writer for Play-By-Play, a monthly sports newspaper in Roanoke that is availabe on Internet. I've been married 38 years to Arlene Leitner, who is known only as "Binki" and collects all kinds of frogs. We have no children. My only immediate family is my mentally-retarded brother who lives in Adams, TN. We see him twice a year on trips to Nashville where we see and visit many of our friends. I am a huge Vanderbilt sports fan and follow the team thanks to sattelite television. I've had some health problems including thyroid cancer that went to my brain and a tumor had to be removed. They gave me a year or less to live, but I'm now up to nearly 18 months and feeling well. They still are trying to remove my thyroid. I now have Barry Bonds' knees (bone on bone) without benefit of the money he has made over the years. I had my Bar Mitzvah last September 1 |
