I have been reading the biographies, which have become a great source of daily news, with great interest. I am truly amazed at the diversity of interests, accomplishments and the geographical disbursement of our class. In one respect, it is hard to imagine that we left the halls of University City High school over 50 years ago. Those times seems a lifetime away, and in many of the “now” pictures, it appears that we have become our parents. Yet, I look forward to seeing all of you soon and we can reminisce about U City High School exploits and hear firsthand about post U City High experiences. Of course, I am also saddened by the many classmates who are no longer with us. The shorthand description of my post U City life can be summed up by the numbers 2.2.1.3.1. Two college degrees, two wives, one job, three children and one grandchild. After graduation from high school, I followed a predictable path. I stayed in St. Louis for college, attending Washington University and graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering—then started graduate school in Industrial engineering with an emphasis on designing hospital systems; finished all class work and then decided that I did not really want o spend my life as an engineer. I then administered a research program at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis for a year, and decided to go to Law School, finally leaving St. Louis. On a personal level, I married Barbara Kanter, who I met at Washington University in 1966. We separated in 1990 and were divorced in 1994. Barbara received a Masters degree from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration, was a practicing social worker for many years and later wrote for People magazine in their Chicago office for over 15 years. We had two girls. Jessica is 34 and Carrie is 29. Jessica received a BA from American University, currently lives in Los Angeles and is an Executive Vice President at Warner Brothers, in charge of many movies that we have all seen. She is married to Adam Goodman who is the President of the Motion Picture Division of DreamWorks/ Paramount. They have one adorable child, now 18 months old named Georgia. Carrie lives in Chicago, received a BA from Pitzer College and a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the Family Institute at |
